Blood Donation/HIV Testing.

My partner and I donated blood 13 weeks ago  (6.5 weeks after he last had intercourse with his ex girlfriend). There is no reason to suspect she is positive but I was curious at around 7 weeks post exposure would it be revealed if he had contacted HIV from his recent ex? Thanks

The American Red Cross performs laboratory tests for multiple infectious disease markers on every unit of donated blood. Tests are upgraded or replaced with more sensitive technologies as these become available. These tests include:

Anti-Trypanosoma cruzi
Hepatitis B virus (HBV)
Hepatitis C virus (HCV 3.0)
Human Immunodeficiency viruses, Types 1 and 2 (HIV 1,2)
Human T-Lymphotropic virus (HTLV-I/II)
Syphilis (Treponema pallidum)
West Nile virus (WNV)

If your partner was positive for HIV, it would DEFINITELY be found and he would be notified.

Thanks for your help! I assumed at 7 weeks it would be evident in blood. We're in the UK but I know they notify aswell. Thank you.
