CUNNILINGUS RISK

I am concerned about risks of performing a cunnilingus (not reciving)

Theorically if i lick a woman´s vagina or clitoris, some of her fluid (containing VIH) could enter my body throug my mucous membrane on my mouth

So is there a risk or not??

I have heard a case of a lesbian been infected this way, true or false?

Is there a real risk or a theorical risk?

Any documentated cases of infection by performing a cunnilingus??

None of us here can even begin to speculate whether this person was lying, and if so, why. The posters above presented facts, backed up by clinical research. There is no reason to debate. Period.

If you feel the need to post again, reread Teak's warning before you do so.

Seriously. An anonymous poster vs. several long-term, controlled, clinical studies. Do the math.

Be well.

In June 2002, a study conducted amongst 135 HIV negative Spanish heterosexuals, who were in a sexual relationship with a person who was HIV positive, reported that over 19,000 instances of unprotected oral sex had not led to any cases of HIV transmission.3 The study also looked at contributing factors that could affect the potential transmission of HIV through oral sex.

It was a study of over 100 couples gay and straight. Did not say who was HIV+ and who was HIV-. But assuming on the detail on the rest of the study it was both.

My link no longer works but I have read it over several times.

You can find many things on the net about oral sex, but this forum is not here to debate you on the issue. We have evidence and the Dr's on this site also back up our stance by saying neither of them have ever seen someone nor have they read anything that would give them confidence to say yes it is a risk.

more about oral sex and HIV,

This is an article founded in a journal from Spain:

A quarter century scientists have been slow in finding the oral route of transmission of HIV, human immunodeficiency virus that causes AIDS. Until now, many doctors privately doubted the testimonies of some infected persons stating that they had not had penetrative sex without protection to justify their status, and attributed this to an attempt to not recognize, especially in the case of men who had had anal intercourse. But this prejudice has been dismantled with the discovery of a molecule in the cells of the tonsils.

The search has been long. So far cases of oral transmission of HIV is justified when the infected person had many wounds in the gums. But this explanation did not convince everyone, because what it has shown is that the saliva of the mouth has a potent antiviral capability. That is why HIV is not spread by sharing a cup or utensils, or by kissing. And so human beings-and many other animals, instinctively lick wounds as a basic way of disinfection.

The new finding provides the first explanation accepted route of HIV transmission. According to researchers at the National Institutes of Health (NIH), the equivalent of the U.S. Department of Health, the tonsils have on their surface a receptor, called CXCR4, which helps the virus to bind to cells that will infect and transmit their genetic material. This molecule is one of the targets being tested in new therapies to treat the infection. In contrast, the walls are covered with gum other molecules, called keratin, which thicken the lining of the gums and act as a barrier. The work has been published in the American Journal of Pathology.

The discovery has served to remind many experts that condoms should be used not only in penetrative sex or anal-vaginal. It is also advisable in oral sex, they insisted.

This study was interview after testing. SF City clinic did a study not too long after and found zero infections. A 10 year study done in Spain found no new infections. And the study done in Spain was with couples (one + the other -) Over 18,000 incidents of unprotected oral sex and protected vaginal and anal sex and no new infections.

A controled study is better then an interview study.

Here is the study

In February of 2000, the US Centers for Disease Control, in conjunction with the University of California, San Francisco Options Project, evaluated the risk behaviors of 102 gay and bisexual men recently infected with HIV. The study coordinators utilized a new technology developed by the CDC called Serologic Testing Algorithm for Recent HIV Seroconversions [STARHS], which they claim can more precisely identify recent infections among blood samples. The conclusion? Eight men in the study (7.8%) were infected with HIV via oral sex. These results were presented at the Seventh Conference on Retroviruses and Opportunistic Infections.
