Causes of leukoplakia?

Hi guys.

I have 2, white, lumps on my gums. One is on the upper jaw, left and behind the last tooth at the back and the other is the same but on the right side. My doctor says its leukoplakia.

I had an HIV exposure but I did an HIV test at 12 weeks post exposure and the results were non reactive. The HIV test done was the Elisa test.

I am also a smoker.

What could cause the leukoplakia since my HIV Elisa tests are negative at 12 weeks post exposure?

This is freaking me out a lot. Any advice would be much appreciated.

Thanks

Mayo Clinic says your smoking is the most likely cause. There is no reason for you to be searching for an HIV link since you don't even have HIV. Note this excerpt "For that reason, it's best to see your dentist if you have unusual, persistent changes in your mouth."

There is not one symptom that is exclusive to hiv so testing is the only way to know.
At 12 weeks a negative hiv result is conclusive.

Continue to work with your Dr but this has no indication of being hiv related.

What was your risk?

Thank you for replying.

I had a small cut on my finger and about 6 - 7 hours after i got cut, i fingered a prostitute. Unsure of her status.

Any comments on what can cause the leukoplakia would be appreciated
