Do i have HIV?

HI, im 25 male. I had sex with a girl i barely knew. We used condoms at first but there was a few thrusts or pumps i did without the condom. i live in a tropical hot country. now im in the US. 6 weeks after the encounter. about a week that im here in the US, i had rashes near my thighs. I dont have flu-like symptoms but i have rashes. Am i Hiv infected? or does the cause of the rashes is because i transfered to a cold country which im not used to.

Thanks,
J T

Hi there,

Symptoms are not good to determine if you are HIV infected.  And i doubt your rashes got to do anything with HIV.

As for your exposure, unprotected remain unprotected, you do need to test.

However, take it easy, HIV is much more unlikely to transmit from women to men.  And from your one time encounter, you are in the odds of being infected.

Hi,

Do rashes have to be accompanied by fever to determine ist HIV? If i dont have a fever, n i only have rashes, does it mean I have a lesser chance of contacting HIV?

Your rashes is not indicative that you have HIV. It is important to note that rashes may be due to many other skin conditions or allergic reactions not related to HIV infection.

Acute (Primary) HIV Infection
This occurs within 2 to 4 weeks after infection, and is a flu-like illness with swollen lymph nodes, fever, malaise and rash lasting about 2 to 3 weeks.

It normally has more than 1 symptom, than again, one cannot base on signs and symptoms to link HIV infection. The only way to know if you are infected is to do a HIV blood test.
