Earrings

I have gauged ears.  About six months ago, I was hanging out at a friends house with a bunch of people.  One young lady there noticed my earrings and said that she had a bag of jewelry in her purse that she had outgrown due to continuous gauging.  She gave me the bag, I took them home and left them on my desk for about a week.  Then came Halloween, and without thinking, I took a pair of them out of the bag and put them in my ears as part of a costume.  I didn't wash them (like an idiot) and I don't know if they had desposits on them of that "ear gunk" that people with gauged ears get.

Anyway, my question is hypothetically could HIV or some other virus live on an earring, or more specifically in that ear gunk for that long?  If so, what are my chances of having contracted HIV or some other virus from it?

Thanks, and I hope someone here can help me.

'What if?'- if that question did not exist then there would be no need for this forum.

I guess I'm just being paranoid huh?  It's the curse of a neurotic.  I know what I'm suggesting is ridiculous, but there is still a part of my mind that tells me... "What if?"
