Elisa test reactive - hiv 1 ab hiv 2 ab negative

Hello doctors

I've been with my bf for 7 years. March of 2014 we broke up and was very distraught I made a mistake and had unprotected sex. We used a condom the first time but a couple of other times we did not. It's been 5 months and I just got tested for stds. Eveything was fine but I got a phonecall from my doctor saying that I was reactive for the hiv eia test. I am so scared and distraught. She told me not to worry because this is just a screening test? And now I'm waiting for the WB test results.

My elisa test came out reactive but hiv 1 ab and hiv 2 ab came out negative.

I don't understand this fact. Doesn't the elisa test find hiv antibodies? Why am I negative for hiv 1 and 2 ab but reactive with elisa test??

Please help. I feel like my life is over

I don't understand them either. That's why I'm worried sick!

Hiv eia - reactive
Hiv 1 ab - negative
Hiv 2 ab - negative.

I'm waiting for my WB test. I've been going insane waiting.

There are no doctors on this forum, only community volunteers.

I don't understand these results.  The word "reactive" is the same as "positive", but you say both HIV1 and HIV2 results were negative. Maybe you had a false positive ELISA, which sometimes happens, but then a second test was done.  If that's the situation, then you can be sure you do NOT have HIV. The second (confirmatory) result is always the accurate one.

You should not rely on this forum.  Discuss this with the doctor or clinic where you were tested. They will be able to explain it to you clearly and accurately.
