Experts please

I recently took the Home Access HIV1 test which was negative at 5 months but my exposure was in West Africa where HIV 2 and other rare strains are more common. And I’m still having symptoms like fatigue and heated skin. Do I need to test for HIV 2 differently?

HIV2 is more common in west Africa than elsewhere, but still rare. And the test you had would detect most HIV2 anyway. But if you remain nervous, have a duo test, which definitely detects all HIV2 as well as HIV1 infections. Why keep worrying when a definitive answer is so easily available?

Thank you HowardH, never felt better by hearing that HIV 2 is still rare even in W. Africa because I was thinking it was more common than HIV1. I took (at 4months) Oraquick also and it was negative. I read that the home access was 2nd Gen Elisa and could detect 40-60% of HIV2 AB, how true is that?

I fear I might test positive that was why I was scared of going to a clinic because in this part US they don’t have anonymous STDs screening. If you are confident that it’ll be negative I’ll make an appointment for all STDs. Once again thank you.
