Exposed, Scared, looking for friends

Hello, Reading some of the posters on this forum this looks like a really excellent place to share some misery :)

Roughly one month ago I had one instance of unprotected sex (vaginal penetration, oral) with a Thai girl in the Northern city of Chiang Mai. No money changed hands and I have no reason to believe she would be a sex worker, but I can only assume she is at the very least a bit promiscius. She told me she was aged 30, and appeared so, was relatively heavy for a thai girl, and exibited no symptoms of anything I could identify. Obviously, it was a stupid mistake and if I could turn back the clock I would. I got tested promptly for the quickly detectable STD's, such as Gonnorrea, Clamydia, etc, all clear, but I am terrified that I may have contracted HIV. I guess I have symptoms, but I have done such a tremedous amount of research and I have been so terrified that I do not believe that they can be a very good indicator of trouble.

I guess I will beat the old drum and ask the same old question... with all that I have learned about HIV subtype E being very contagious in Thailand and the probability of my partner potentially having HIV, what are my chances of contraction? Sounds silly to ask.. logically there are too many factors to account for I suppose.

Secondly, I would really like to at least get tested now for a little piece of mind... any chance of the antibodies showing up after 1 month? I have a little home test kit, the FDA approved one, I heard it was quite reliable.

More so, I have been reading many posts of a similar nature on this forum, If anyone is going through what I am and would like to chat please let me know. I think a lot of people here are very courageus in the face of what I must consider one of the more horrible fates that could happen to someone. Good bless anyone who reads this and is having the same problem. If I am blessed with a negative result I will endeavor change my life.

Momar,
Well first off you know you will need to test at three months. The problem here is that it was unprotected. You can not tell by looking at the physical appearance of people that they are or are not positive. You know there is a high rate of hiv in Thailand Momar even if the woman is not a prostitute this carries over to the general population. Try not to worry yourself with what the internet, learn your status after three months and NEVER again man. My ex-girlfriend told me only one hour a day when i was at   the height of my worrying, but i could not help myself worrying endlessly and i lost her. Do an std battery as well while you are there and know that all though this was a high risk only because this country is on the short list when it comes to hiv rates it does not mean transmission is a given. The partner may be tested if this is still a possibility for you...alley-z...

one month test is reliable but encouraging. 3 month is conclusive, odds are in your favor as it is harder female to male transmission than male to female. good luck

Hi there,

For your one time incident, your risk is consider low.  Oral is even lower.......

But since you had unprotected sex, test is needed.

The window period for HIV is between 1 to 3 months after an exposure. A person can go for a HIV ELISA or Rapid test earliest 1 month after an exposure and retest at the 3rd month for a conclusive result. Most people would be negative when the HIV test is repeated at the 3rd month.
