For those who are worried

I just want to let others know that even the most mysterious symptoms under suspect circumstances DO NOT mean you have contracted HIV.  The best thing you can do if you are waiting is to listen to the voices on this forum and know that you are probably fine.

I had unprotected oral sex with a prostitute, as well as sex with a condom.  About 10 days later I came down with severe chills, a dry cough, then a temperature which quickly skyrocketed.  I felt dizzy and weak for the next several days.  Over the next few weeks I had several night sweats.  I had a cough and about two weeks later I developed very bad pharyngitis.  I had white spots in my throat and this progressed to very painful tonsillitis.  I became nauseous and vomited the next day.  I had sharp stomach pains.  After treatment with amoxicillin, I developed thrush and a week later a diffuse red rash on my arms and legs.  A few weeks later my sore throat reappeared for several weeks and I developed persistent white spots.  I had recurrent ear aches during this time.  I even developed pink eye.  Additionally, I have had muscle twitches and sometimes tingling in my arms or legs.  The whole time I've had a feeling of being hot that won't go away.

As many of you can imagine, I was freaking out about ARS.  I thought it was only a matter of time before I was diagnosed with HIV.  Every day I thought about how I would tell my family and how my life was over.  I got several tests before 13 weeks which came back negative.  I still thought that for sure by the 13th week I would be positive.  Well, I got tested at 4 months and it still came back negative.  I talked to my doctor and she said that there is absolutely no reason to suspect HIV and that I can even have unprotected sex if I want.  I couldn't believe it.  It didn't even seem real, I was so happy.

My point is that I had a low-risk/no-risk sexual encounter that many people write about here.  I lost so much sleep overthinking my condition; it was hell.  One of the saving graces of this period for me was listening to people giving me real talk on this forum, telling me that I am fine.  I am writing this note both to thank all of you who wrote me, and to reassure many of you who think you may have HIV.

The bottom line is that symptoms mean nothing and if the people on this forum agree that you had no risk, then don't lose sleep over it.  People such as teak and joggen and several others are telling you the truth when they say you don't have HIV.  YOU DON'T HAVE HIV!!!  Get tested at 3 months and know that you will be negative.  It's human nature to worry when our health mysteriously goes bad, but keep a level head and trust the advice of others.

Thanks again to all who offered their voices - you helped me in a very difficult time and I am very grateful for your efforts!

Side note: my doctors still can't diagnose me with anything after 4 months.  After getting pink eye, I developed more ear aches, a sore throat and now I have a cold.  It's extremely frustrating, but at least I know it isn't HIV.

you were NEVER at risk.  hiv does not penetrate an intact condom.

now move along...you do not have a hiv concern.

Saisam,

I just went through the same stress although I did got syphilis from my encounter. I just finished both antibiotics for a flu and the syphilis (they where about a couple of weeks apart) and developed an oral thrush. Was yours oral as well? I have 13 week negative HIV from my incident and took a home access at 4 months (yesterday) which I am expecting to be negative.

Thanks for your help!
Your post helped a lot

I'm glad I could help others out - I know I would have liked to hear other voices like this when I was going through those 3 months...it's such an unbelievably long time to wait.  Joy, clean and aj, I know what you feel like, and I've read your posts.  Don't worry, seriously.  The people here are giving you good advice.  Just set a date in your calendar to get tested and don't give it any more thought.  I know it's impossible not to think about, but try and remember what everyone is telling you here.  They are right!  I do feel like a huge weight has been lifted from my shoulders and that I can start thinking about my future again.  It's really great!  Now, if I could just kick these nasty recurring illnesses and figure out why I'm getting them...I'll try and update if there's anything new!

Congratulations Sai and thanks for writing this note. I too am having same symptoms and Teak and co is telling me that I was never at risk. But still in the back of my mind some thing is telling there may be a rare chance of getting HIV. I was very anxious and to be frank I didnot eat anything for three days after my exposure, and gradually food consumption reduced drastically. I'm hoping all the symptoms are related to over anxiousness and lack of food and sleep.

It is good that, you took time to write this and it must be really comforting to thousands of such users who are reading this. And can you update your original thread with the status as well, as I'm seeing many of those who are spilling beans of panic in their threads dont update what happened finally.

I hope it will be like another life for you now.

There is no way, I am talking to my family or even friends about this thing.
