Getting tested ...

After telling my friends about my tattoo they totally freaked me out. I'm getting tested on Monday (I was tested before 6 wks after my tattoo) what are my chances of testing positive? I'm worried sick.

"Modern third generation tests will identify well over 99% of newly infected HIV positive people at 6 weeks after exposure even though they are licensed for use after 12 weeks after a possible exposure."

ALSO. One last thing, my tattoo WAS infected but it was most likely due to poor aftercare. Is this something to worry about?

Thanks, so my risk is zero? I looked up the shop online and they listed sterilization as a procedure. Also, if they got shut down for health problems, that would def be on the news, right? I'm so sorry I'm so obsessive I have a phobia and I'm continuing counseling.

You didn't contract HIV from a tattoo. Test ONLY IF you've had unprotected vaginal/anal sex or shared needles for injecting IV drugs.

I understand my risk is no risk but what about the 6 week result?

You didn't get a tattoo right after someone else. If you are concern contact the tattoo studio.

Sorry, I'm not trying to be obsessive just questioning. What do you mean if they weren't sterilized? What if theoretically the person before
me was positive and the same equipment was used on me? It's doubtful this happened, just concerned as to why.

Even if the needles weren't sterilized.

CDC knows of no instances of HIV transmission through tattooing or body piercing, although hepatitis B virus has been transmitted during some of these practices.
