Got gonorrhea with protection - how's the risk getting HIV?

Hi,

6 weeks ago I had sex with a sex worker. I wear condom from the beginning to the end. But unfortunately I've got gonorrhoea. I don't know why. I don't think the condom had dropped during the sex, and I think maybe there were a small amount of body fluid contact my penis skin when I took off the condom and wipe my penis.

Now I am worrying about get HIV as the same time. Because I am afraid about gonorrhea make my skin wounded, and increase the contracting risk.

Now is the 45th day after this sex. I don't have any obvious hiv-related symptoms (fever, rash). I do have diarrhea for two times. The first time is during my gonorrhea treatment and lasted about 4-5 days (in average 3 times per day), I thought it may be caused by the use of antibiotic. The second time is at last week, it only lasts one day, however it's a severe one.

I had a ELISA 3rd generation test in CDC and the result is negative 5 weeks after this sexual contact. (I am in China.) But the doctor insisted that the time window is 3 months, which make me worried again.

So could you have a assess how is the risk that I've contracted HIV? Forgive my poor English and thank you very much for help!!

Well, thank you all.
Anyway, I do have a belief that the risk I get HIV is not very high. However, the feeling of fear and anxiety doesn't disappear in these days. Maybe it's just a sense of guilty. I will never have sex with CSWs after that. Hope the anxiety will disappear after the 8-weeks test.

99% its from the oral cuz gonorrhea transmit in oral too unlike hiv

Relax and retest after 3 months just for a peace of mind

Most likely that is where you got the gonorhea. Because the condom should have protected you. That makes it a bit clearer.

That reminds me. I did have a unprotected oral sex a week before that. But I am not sure if it's related. Because in that week I don't have any symptoms of gonorrhea. And as I know usually the gonorrhea shows its symptom very quickly.

Actually it is the habits that increase your risk the and of course having a pre existing std then having unprotected sex amplifies the risk, though i am curious how you got the gonnorhea. Are you sure it was from this expoure? Not before this one? Anyway just work with your doctor. To ease your mind regarding HIV window periods.

At this point just trust your doctor he maybe conservative but he is medically qualified than most of the people here. Anyway 3rd gen test are conclusive by 6 weeks as quoted by dr handsfield. (just back thread his replies) so if you tested 5 weeks plus. You should be in the clear. You can test at 8 weeks for additional peace of mind. Do not expect it to change at 12 weeks. Wish you the best!
