If you have tested 3 months after you last exposure and the result was negative, then you are conclusively negative.
Dear Raj
Thanks for your reply,, i have heard that people who have concerns about this disease should get tested within 6 months to accurately determine whether the person is safe or not,, why do people say this,, and what is the difference between p24 antigen and antibody,, experts have also said that antigens are only seen for 2 months after exposure ,, after this period they cannot be detected in the blood stream,, then how come people are screened with conclusive tests :P :(
The 6 month window period is outdated.
The p24 antigen test looks for the presence of p24 protein of hiv.
The antibody test looks for the anyibodies,
For a conclusive result at 3 months an antibody test is enough.
thank you bro for all your efforts and concrete explanation,, after 24th november 2012 i havent had any encounter with anyone since then,,,, till now i have tested 3 times for hiv status which was found to be negative every time,, can i assume concretely that i am negative or still there is some reason to get worried ,, if NO then what should i do in order to confirm my status
one more question please,, whats the difference between ANTIBODY AND P24 ANTIGEN,, how do they individually place a significant role in determining the HIV STATUS of an individual,, PLEASE CLARIFY ,, thank you so much
If you have tested 3 months post your last exposure then your results are conclusive.
As I have said the p24 antigen test looks for the presence of p24 protein of hiv.
The p24 antigen test is used to detect infection in primary stage.
The standard antibody tests look out for hiv antibodies.
Move along you don't have an HIV concern.
@teak and @raj,, thank you so much for your favorable replies, I am grateful to both of you for pulling me out of this dilemma,, but I have one question and that is people say hiv positive people don't experience any kind of symptoms even in the PRELIMINARY stage once they are infected, so what I wanted to know is this the reality or its a MYTH, please do shed light on this subject, thank you
