There is NO Test to give anyone a conclusive negative result outside of 3 months. Reread all the replies that have been given to you. You have been give what tests are approved for diagnostic use.

Being content and paying for an unproved test doesn't make much sense. If you want to know your status use an approved test. Take an ELISA test which is approved for diagnostic use.

There are no PCR test that are approved to be used in diagnostic use. They are used for those that are infected to monitor the progress of HIV and to monitor those on HAART medications.

Just what is PCR?

PCR stands for Polymerase Chain Reaction. PCR is a technique to look for unique DNA. PCR for the HIV virus looks for DNA of the HIV virus. PCR for the gene of cystic fibrosis looks for that DNA sequence unique for cystic fibrosis.

The PCR test offered is performed by one of the largest and most respected laboratories in the United States, using a kit prepared by Roche Laboratories. It is at the time of this writing the only HIV PCR kit commercially available. This test has a 95% confidence level for detecting the presence of the HIV virus after 28 days. The PCR HIV test usually returns in 5 to 7 days. We offer the HIV PCR DNA test along with the Standard Elisa HIV Test. The Standard Test usually returns the next day. This testing combo is the best and only way to detect early infection.

PCR is so sensitive, that there is a possibility of false positive results. Indeterminate results are also possible. It is our policy that any positive tests will be repeated on a new blood draw sample at no additional cost to you. It is also our policy that every person who requests a HIV PCR test also have a standard HIV Elisa test at the same time at no additional cost to you.

The standard AIDS test is an Elisa test, which tests for the antibodies your body makes for the AIDS virus. This test is the standard test used by hospitals and blood banks in America and the world. Positive tests are confirmed with a second test called the Western blot, which also analyzes the body's antibody response. The Elisa test is usually positive 3 months after infection with the HIV virus.

The advantage of the PCR test is that it is a direct test for the presence of the DNA HIV virus. If you are infected, the DNA of the AIDS virus is present in your blood. This test can pick up HIV infection before the Elisa test turns positive.

The PCR test has a 95% confidence level for detecting HIV infection after 28 days.

Polymerase Chain Reaction (PCR) is superior to any other test for the following reason: It is a direct detection method, which searches and detects the actual pathogen's nucleic acids. In contrast, the ELISA and the Western Blot detect only the body's immunologic response.

Not sure of your exposure? Take Control.

The Safest Thing To Do is Take the Test.

Yes three months is when you can obtain a conclusive test result which has nothing to do with PCR tests.

The RealTime test is intended for use in conjunction with clinical presentation and other laboratory markers as an indicator of disease prognosis and for use as an aid in assessing viral response to antiretroviral treatment as measured by changes in plasma HIV-1 RNA levels. The assay is not intended to be used as a donor-screening test for HIV-1 or as a diagnostic test to confirm the presence of HIV-1 infection.

The test is intended for use in conjunction with clinical presentation and other laboratory markers of disease progress for the clinical management of HIV-1 infected patients. It can be used to assess patient prognosis by measuring the baseline HIV-1 RNA level or to monitor the effects of antiretroviral therapy by measuring changes in EDTA plasma HIV-1 RNA levels during the course of antiretroviral treatment. The test is not intended for use as a screening test for the presence of HIV-1 in blood or blood products or as a diagnostic test to confirm the presence of HIV-1 infection.

10. How long should I wait to test and what is the 'window period' ?

We know approximately how long it may take a person to produce antibodies to HIV based on years of data, research and advancements in testing.

A person who has contracted HIV may show up positive as early as two weeks after the time they were infected. According to page 11 of the Module 6 Training Manual from the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, the vast majority of those who contract HIV will show up positive between 4—6 weeks after infection.

To obtain a reliable test result, it is recommended that you wait at least six weeks after your last exposure. A tiny number of people may not test positive for three months. These are generally people with pre-existing immune disorders such as chemotherapy patients or recent organ transplant recipients who must take immune system-suppressing drugs. For this reason, many agencies will suggest a uniform three month test to cover everyone.

Testing beyond three months is completely unnecessary.

Here is a chart with approximate accuracy of HIV antibody testing:

Time Accuracy

2 weeks…………………………50%

3 weeks…………………………75%

4 weeks…………………………95%

6 weeks…………………………99%

3 months…………………….100%

An RNA test is a supplemental test used in conjunction with an antibody test. An RNA test cannot give you a conclusive result.
