HIV Testing Methods

Has the HIV PCR RNA or HIV PCR DNA test been approved by the FDA for diagnosing HIV yet? Or is the 3rd and 4th generation antibody tests still considered the "gold standard"?

Thanks for your input and time!!!

It's not use to confirm a positive result it's used to help with diagnosing tests the have continued indeterminate results.

Thanks!

My understanding is PCR RNA diagnosing wise should be used for early defection or to confirm a positive antibody test is this correct ?

Also, for non early testing(outside the window period) would the Serology test (antibody 3rd and. 4th) be the recommended test?

Thanks !

DNA  --No
RNA- Approved to help in diagnosing, it's not a stand alone test.
