A risk is still a risk. numbers / statistics doesn't tell you that you have no HIV. Only the test does.
Thanks for the reply tom, i'm scarred out of my mind i've done something terrible by not getting myself tested before getting someone else involved.
While single, I believed it was a low risk encounter and was not that concerned. Since the HIV test - i have done some research and found that a new strain exists in Thailand (and probably other countries) which has a higher transmission through vaginal intercourse.

What I am asking is - is there typically a delay with results on a positive test? - No. just wait for the result. You should ask your doctor at the time of testing how long the results will take.
Further clarification, on the above, it has now been 3.5 weeks and we have not been given a result (perhaps this is a sign there is nothing wrong).
Also, apologies if you feel I am asking to comment on the testing regime of my local hospital...
