HIV in USA

Hey I was just wondering if anybody knew how common HIV is here in America.  On some of the expert prevention questions the doctors say it is rare here in America and i haven't asked them that myself so i was wondering if anybody on this forum knew if it was rare in America or not.

Thanks for the help guys. I should have thought about what i put before i did it because I don't think i have found a post that said HIV was rare in the USA. What I have found in previous posts was the doctors saying that hiv was rare in heterosexual women, rare in sex workers in America, or she probably don't have HIV or something like that. What im wondering is this, in that website that ww2008 sent me it says there are around 1,000,000 to 1,200,000 people living with hiv/aids in the US. I know thats a high number but wouldn't that number seem low since there are around like 300 million people in the US or something like that. I don't if its just me or what but what do you guys think about that.

Yeah, so looking at that mathematically, it is 1 in every 300 people that have HIV in the US. It is important to note that the majority of HIV persons fall within certain groups. Honestly, 1 in every 300 people seems kind of high to me.

You had asked about heterosexual women in the US. Yes, assuming they are not drug users, then they do not make up a large part of that number.

Can I ask you why you are asking? Have you had a risk?

Yea I get what your saying. Comparing that to oral sex risks which I've read are between 1-10,000 or 1-20,000 or unprotected vaginal sex which is i believe 1-2,000 it does seem high. Now im not the greatest person at math but even with the 1-300 seeming kind of high wouldn't that still be less than one percent of the population though.

What is you point that you trying to get at?

The only reason why Im asking is because even though the only form of sex I've had is  unprotected oralsex from a hetrosexual girl one time which is apparently no risk, to me it would just seem weird and uncomfortable for me if I ever found out she did have HIV knowing that I did a sex act with her. even though I've only met her once i have heard stories about her that could possibly put her at risk of getting hiv.

Use a condom, correctly, consistently and you won't have any worries.
