In my understanding, HIV is a highly variable disease. ARS symptoms occur in some people but not in others.
Most authorities say that ARS will occur between 2-6 weeks after infection, but in some people it is a few days after infection and in some it can be later than 6 weeks.
The best way to know your status is to get tested!
Thanks for answers! Also want to ask, is it possible that acute hiv simptomes happens in 9 weeks after exposure or unlikely?
I read most people have ARS symptoms in 2-4 weeks after exposure, i feeled excellent during this period.
Receptive oral sex carries a very low risk of HIV infection - there have been very few documented cases. Those cases that did occur generally always involved ejaculation.
Lady-Janet, the easiest way to put your mind is to get an HIV test.
Your exposure was over 3 months ago. Any HIV test would give you an accurate result - a rapid fingerstick test, venous antibody test, or 4th generation test. You are outside the window period so all would be reliable. Dont be afraid! The chance of infection from receptive oral sex is extremely low.
I would not agree with those who tell you not to test, because unless you know your status, the incident will play on your mind and affect your mental wellbeing. You might get a cough in two months and attribute it to HIV. This is what anxiety can do.
The easiest way to stop yourself going down this route is to get scientific proof you are HIV free - i.e. an HIV test. I am confident that you are HIV negative. Pneumonia (lower respiratory tract infection) can occur in anyone - most cases have nothing to do with HIV.
It's time to move on, you have been told over and over you had no HIV risk.
Help please, i'm so stressed. Can be pneumonia as reaction to lowered CD4 count just after seroconversion?
hello, I think you are safe. But for your worry, just go to the doctor and let them test you. it is now very easy to get tested. betterr be safe than sorry. But I am sure you are negative.
Thanks for reply. But i'm still stressed. According to information on some sites, hiv virus makes a lot of damage to immune system during "window" period. So sudden pneumonia can be result of decreased CD4 amount?
Plz comment it, thanks for your time and help.
Your pneumonia has nothing to do with your encounter.
You do not need testing for this sexual encounter. While there is a minute risk placed on GIVING oral sex, it's not significant enough to warrant testing.
Thanks, so can be bacterial pneumony as reaction to infection?
You are probably safe.
There are very very few documented cases of oral sex (person sucking ***).
Would be better to have an HIV test at 8 weeks.
to be sure, take an hiv antibody (3rd gen) test 12 weeks after the exposure.. or duo test (4th gen, antibody+antigen) . As you had your exposure in early november, now would be a good time to get an accurate result
Did you have an HIV test yet?
