I have reread them, then I read a similar post that provides different data on the same topic.
why does DR HHH say the ELISA is good for CRFs then in some posts he questions the tests reliability of detection of antibodies associated with CRF's?
I get that ELISA and EIA will detect all all subtypes to include CRF's, but is it reliable and conclusive at 12 weeks? I am focused on CRF01_AE.
Does the military use ELISA or EIA?
Your questions were already answered go back and reread them.
Dr HHH wrote this on 29AUG2010,
"The aberrant HIV strains you worry about, which could result in false negative blood tests, are absent in the US and other industrialized countries."
Could CRF's result in false negatives in HIV Antibodies, HIV-1/HIV-2, EIA with Reflex to HIV-1, Western Blot or any other ELISA.\
Are CRF's more likely to give false positives?
Sorry to keep asking more details about this type of test, I just want to ensure my test will be accurate and put my fears to rest.
Thanks for your reply: here is what Quest's site says.
HIV Antibodies, HIV-1/HIV-2, EIA with Reflex to HIV-1, Western Blot 37694
Clinical Significance
The combination HIV-1/HIV-2 includes detection of subtypes of HIV-1 not included in HIV-1, EIA alone. HIV-2 is closely related to HIV-1 regarding nucleic acid sequence and clinical disease. HIV-2 is endemic to West Africa with nearly all cases in the United States identified in citizens or travelers from West Africa. Rarely, HIV-1 Western blot indeterminate results may be due to HIV-2 infection in a patient who has been exposed to HIV-2. The Western blot is useful to confirm repeatedly reactive EIA results.
So, I assume this means it covers ALL Subtypes and Groups of HIV-1 to include CRF01_AE and in addition it covers HIV-2 all in this one test.
Am I correct?
Thanks again for taking the time to answer my questions I appreciate you both take the time help me, it means a great deal.
yes it covers all the subtypes.
Teak you are great at geeting info out, thanks if I find a site that refrences it I will post it for all to see.
