HIV result negative after 6wks accurate?
Had unprotected sex with a girl I barely knew six weeks ago and got an STI. Noticed I had gotten oral thrush right after I was done with antibiotics medication that treated the infection. Tried home remedies to treat the thrush but it didn’t work and still have the thrush almost two weeks later. Just a few days ago I developed sore throat and a day after complaining of sore throat I had a runny nose then I started coughing. Had fever too. I’m recovering from these flu like symptoms now. Just this week I did a retroviral test and tested for HIV but it came out as negative. I’m not sure of the type of test done but it blood was drawn out with a syringe in a lab and i received the results almost two hours after. How accurate is the results? These symptoms are overwhelming and too much of a coincidence if you ask me. I’m I infected with HIV or I’m I negative like the results after 6 weeks of exposure is saying? Finally got nystatin for the thrush today though, hopefully it goes away soon.

Oral, anal or vaginal? It is unscientific to just ignore all possibilities and conclude your cold is due to HIV, otherwise the country would be full of misdiagnosed patients if doctors did that, so try to relax.
It was vaginal. What of the oral thrush?
Oral thrush is quite common, with MANY causes, the least likely of which is HIV. Antibiotic use is a common cause, for example.
We can't guess what kind of test you had, so you'll have to call the lab. If it's 4th generation, it is conclusive. If not, you will have to re-test at 90 days post-exposure.

You said retroviral so it was RNA?
I doubt it was RNA because it was so expensive plus I had my results in less that 2 hours

Next week marks six weeks. Will go test again and update you all.
I’ve been so anxious and stressed out that it has affected my health and social life but I can’t help it.
It is going to be another waste of time and it will do nothing to resolve your anxiety if you take anything other than a 4th gen before 12 weeks. Your situation is straightforward to resolve instead of spending your life stuck with anxiety asking "what-if?" - just call the lab now to find what was used.
I called the lab and they said it’s 4th gen. Does this mean the test is conclusive?
