Hi there. I'm from the USA. I know that experts say hiv2 is not in the USA as much as other countries. They also say to only test for hiv 2 if you have had sex with someone that is from west Africa. My question is what if you sleep with someone who is from the USA but that person had previously slept with someone with hiv2. You just wouldn't know.

I know many tests look for both. But is this a legit worry? Does this ever happen? Someone turning up with hiv2, not having slept with, done drugs with, etc. someone from west Africa? Thank you!

Any test will detect HIV 2 and in the US it is very rare.

Unprotected sex was the exposure. I'm just concerned about hiv2's prevalence and whether or nots it's a concern.

You never stated you had an exposure or what  type of exposure.

It was implied in my question. Any help would be appreciated.

Why are you posting, if you never had an exposure?
