How effective is Pep at 65hrs and Hiv Risk ?

Good day

i had a condom slip where the partner was female and she was on top  during sex .At withdrawal i came to see only the top head of my penis was covered but the foreskin might have been exposed if the condom was slipping during sex.I hadnt ejaculated yet but I am not sure how long the condom might have not covered foreskin but at withdrawal only head was covered. She might have just ended her periods .

She refused to get tested and so i ended up going to the clinic.A the clinic they told me that it is possible maybe condom slip occured at withdrawal since if it was total failure it would have remained inside her but they advised ot to take chances. So i started PEP at 64 hrs. i was given tenolam and atz as the dosage .I am on day 24.i was called in for follow up and my results were negative .
so far . i will go again after a month .

My questions are :

1.How effective is the dosage i was given Tenolam and atz at 64 hrs.? was i not late in starting pep.

2. My exposure how high was it considering if she was hiv positive.

3.If i tested negative at day 24 what are the chances my results wil my change after this.

4.I know it ssounds crazy but is ther a drug out ther to lower male libido.

5.Lastly when i take atazanavir at times i sleep okay then at times my head sweats and feel weak but in the morning better again .Are these acute hiv syndromes..Should i stop pep.

I am disapointed in myself and so anxious and scared .Please help .

1.PEP must be given with 72 hours of exposure. You were still within that time frame but it doesn't seem to me like you had a risk in the first place. Only the head of your penis needs to be covered by the condom to be protected, which you said it was, therefore you didn't have a risk.

2. From the way you described it, your had no exposure at all.

3.For someone who had an exposure, testing on day 24 after being on PEP is not conclusive at all. Furthermore, none of those tests you mentioned are conclusive until 12 weeks after exposure because they are 3rd generation antibody only tests. Plus, taking PEP delays the window period of when a person can expect a conclusive result. But  you didn't have a risk, since you used a condom and the head of your penis was covered, then all of this is a moot point because non exposures do not have a window period.

4. See a doctor for that question. This is an HIV forum and that's not the type of questions that are answered here.

5. PEP is a very strong and toxic medicine meant for people who were knowingly exposed to an HIV+ partner. It's not like taking an aspirin. Read the pamphlet that came with the meds to see all of the multitude of side effects possible from taking it. As for whether you should stop taking it, you shouldn't have been given it in the first place so draw your own conclusions. But I would not have asked for it in the first place unless I had an actual exposure with a known HIV+ partner.

Thank  you Chima7 for your straight to the point Answers.I appreciate your time and effort .

1.I now believe i was within the time frame .Thank you.

2.My head was covered at withdrawal but my anxiety comes from the fact that the nurse talked abt if my foreskin might have been exposed during condom slip there might have been a risk so Pep seemed logical  at the time.Do you have any input on that given they say the foreskin plays a part in hiv infection.?

3.You have clarified that tho the tests they did they said tested both  p24 and antibody.

4.I reduct my question.being a new member i am still learning the ropes.

5.I was made to believe from most stuff i have read in posts similar to mine that it is best to believe if source hiv status  unknown approach as if source might be positive...

1. Effective
2. Low risk
3. Depends on what test you did. But in essence, it is conclusive.
4. Ask your doctor
5. No. Some side effects. Or maybe your own imagination. Ask your doctor

Thank you biology2017...

I appreciate your response ....

Just a follow up being a person in a third world country

So tenolam and atazanavir are correct dosage .

And testing at day 24 on Pep ....They used oraquick then hiv determine and accumed finger prick...They say its a good sign.

Lastly is ther any record of anyone who tested negative immediately at the end of Pep and after no further exposures went on to test positive later
No
