I THINK THIS IS IT, CONDOM BROKE AND SHE IS HIV +VE

Hello Doc/All,

I had a sexual encounter with a girl at around 1:00 am 4th December 2017 , the lady was on top, after I ejaculated, and she got off me, I discovered the condom to have slipped off me and it was partially/completely inside her and the condom has broken(When the condom broke I didn't know). Worst of it all is that she just finished her menstrual cycle a day before so there was blood all around the condom. I looked at my Penis, there was little blood on it due to the slip off, not on the tip , just the body, I immediately went to the bathroom and washed it off with soap.

As at the time of the sexual encounter, I dint know of her status, By 9th December 2017, I tricked her to get tested for HIV with me (alere HIV 1/2 rapid test, finger pricked, I checked online, i think it was ag/ab type or so) I tested negative and she tested positive. I was scared to death, does this automatically means I have contacted it??  I looked at her reaction, she wasn't shocked but she lied she never knew.

The health worker did another test just to confirm both our status, the results still came back the same. The health worker prescribed HIV medication to me as PEP, I was asked to use the complete dose for 30 days. I know PEP is supposed to be administered at most 72hrs after exposure; still I was asked to start using it from  8:00pm 9th December 2017 till now. From the reaction of the lady, the health worker suspects she knew she has it, she reluctantly registered with the clinic and collected first dose of drug, same as the one given to me.(I am sure she did this just to make me believe she didn't know and perhaps continue with the relationship). She was asked to come the following day for CD4 count check, she never showed up. I suspect she has registered somewhere else before and on medication.(This is just assumption from her general behavior and reaction). She is not truthful at all, I assumed the worst of her. I secretly checked her facebook page, she even posted 2 hrs later all happy and everything. Too happy for someone who has been recently diagnosed.

On 25th December, exactly 21 days later, I tested using the same test strip(Alere Rapid test hiv1/2, I don't know much about the test strip , i think it is 4th generation). The test came back negative. I am still using the drugs given to me

Do I have HIV?, I am scared, Recently, I keep having a little diarrhea and other nauseous feelings that I cant explain, I am miserable, I cant sleep well,  I keep thinking about it, I cant even stop thinking about it. What are my chances?? I summoned great courage to register on this forum and ask for help. The health worker assured me I haven't contacted anything and that he is speaking from experience.

I keep thinking this is high risk. Just a sexual encounter.

Please help!!

Your prompt response will be highly appreciated.

I really feel for this guy. I pray to God that you are negative..We all make bad choices in life, some of us pay dearly for them..I was once on pep and it gave me diarrea and made me feel terrible. I contacted the guy I was with, told him that I needed for us to go get tested. Luckily he agreed. We were both negative, so I discontinued it. Bottom line, everyone deserves a second chance, I know Feb seems like a lifetime away, but take this time and focus on building your faith. You've learned from your mistake, dont be too hard on yourself

After PEP, it is advised to wait 90 days for a conclusive result.  Your negative test is a very good sign.
thank you CurfewX, at least I can get to relax and relieve myself of unnecessary anxiety

Thanks AnxiousNoMore,

Please exactly how many weeks more are we talking about??

Does this result suggest hopeful negative in the coming proposed few weeks.

Considering the exposure/risk i explained, and tests I had done, in ur honest opinion do u think I am safe?

Sorry for bugging u too much..I am sure u encounter anxious people like me on a daily basis..

Looking forward to your prompt reply as always

Hello Anxiousnomore,

Are you saying my test isn't conclusive? Because of difference of a day?

6weeks? I don't understand..
Please give more details..

U said earlier in this thread that 28days post pep is okay.. and 27 isn't? I mean, It's just a day..

Also this is exactly 8.8weeks post exposure!!

Are u saying I should take another test tomorrow? That this is not reassuring?

I am really freaking out here, Am not sure I can wait anylonger

Please elaborate, I don't understand!

Help!!

Testing guidelines are there for a reason so don't have unprotected until you do a proper test. 27 cuts your odds down to tiny so unless you are having unprotected with someone soon, you should test again in a few weeks so you feel confident. Oral is never a risk so that is an option while you wait.

Hello Anxiousnomore/All,

Today is 27 days post pep and I did two tests (alere determine and unigold tests) both came out negative, I couldn't wait till tommorow (sunday) because no one will be available to test me at the lab.

I am still really freaked out because I feel I go to the toilet a little too often. No weight loss or any other symptoms though..

Can I consider this result conclusive and move on?.. or do I need more testing! Please help me!! I am scared.. this past 8 weeks have been the hardest/longest of my life.

I  can't think straight..

Anxiety is a b****h!!

I wish you had waited until 28.
I think you should do another later. Maybe wait for 6 weeks if the first one is negative.

HIV doctors can't diagnose from symptoms because multiple diseases have the same symptom so you won't be able to either.
Try to relax until Feb, because nothing is pointing toward you having HIV. The first step to relax is quit Googling symptoms cold turkey and stop analyzing your body, because there is no useful diagnostic info on Google.
No one can diagnose from here, so you have to see your doctor for a diagnosis if the pimple is a health concern.

Keep in mind that if your penis tip was covered, you were protected against HIV.  Otherwise, you will need to test at 28 days.

Did you tell them the exposure date?
Also provide more condom details that I requested.
Yes, I told them exactly when and how it happened. Thank you a lot for your time AnxiousNoMore, I am not sure I understand the details you are requesting . However, I think the condom tore by the side or something, but most of the blood were around the condom, I only saw little stains by the side of my penis, I dont remember noticing any blood on the tip, it was when she got off that I saw the condom in her, no longer on my penis , it slipped off. she removed it immediately .If it had broken for long, I think i should have a whole lot of blood stains on me, but i didnt, rather, it was around the condom. However, I wasnt too concerned enough to thoroughly examine the condom at the time as I didn't know of her status. but I knew it broke, when it broke I wasnt sure, but I dont think it was for long

After reading a lot of things online about the alere hiv 1/2 rapid test(that it can detect early infection of between 21-25 days) that was why I tested 21 days after the exposure for some anxiety relieve.

One thing worth mentioning, long ago before this encounter, I notice like a pimple-like stuff (sigle one)at the base of my penis, not painful at all and not postular, i dont think its anything tho, maybe it developed after a shave something. its just lying there. I am just trying to give as much detail as possible while acessing possible risk from every angle.  Please excuse my english

Thank you alot, I appreciate your responses
Your window period starts the day you stop taking PEP. The test might be able to detect by 21 but it isn't conclusive. A duo from a clinic is better and you have to wait until 28.
Since PEP must be administered within 72 hours I have no idea why they started you on it since you were too late. Talk to the doctor to find what the reasoning is, because there is no sense taking something that can't work.
From your details it seems likely the head was protected in which case you didn't have a risk, but take the test at 28 to confirm your status. Try to relax until then because nothing is pointing toward you having HIV.

I had similar incident, testing till today and getting negative result though i convinced myself as infected.

Only the head needs protection because HIV enters through the urethra. You think there was no blood on the head, so perhaps you were still protected depending on when and where the condom failed. Please provide more detail. Also it has to be penetrating unprotected for an HIV risk, so if it happened during withdrawal there wouldn't be any HIV transmission.
Also you don't get HIV every time you have vaginal with an HIV person so don't give up hope.
You have to wait 28 days post PEP to test with the 4th gen. There is nothing  to say about your early test  result.
HIV doctors can't diagnose from symptoms due to multiple potential causes of a symptom so you also won't be able to get any useful info from studying what you think are symptoms. The symptoms you describe are what anxiety makes a person experience so nothing is pointing toward you having HIV. Try to relax until your test window ends.
Did you ask the clinic why you were given PEP 5.5 days after the exposure? Did they give you an explanation why they started you late?
Thanks Anxiousnomore, they didn't intentionally start the PEP at 5.5 days, they did so because that's when i discovered she is +ve.

I am scared to death, God help my soul.
What are my chances?
