Imagining HIV symptoms?

Hi,

I've had unprotected oral sex with another man who I met online about 47 days ago. I ejaculated in his mouth and tried giving him oral but for a very short time and without him getting hard or any semen involved. I've really been obsessing with my health since then. I got tested immediately and tested negative for all STIs. I have another appointment for a blood test in about a month and a half but I am finding it really hard to cope with the unknown - I think I've developed some form of anxiety that makes me imagine symptoms. I've been feeling some discomfort in my throat for about 3 weeks now but sometimes I feel it's normal and I only start to feel it when I'm thinking about it. I don't have any discomfort eating or swallowing. Today I've been feeling a bit feverish, but again I believe it's from over-obsessing about it, as it just comes and goes.

Do you think I'm at risk given the situation and my on-and-off symptoms? The doctors in the health clinic re-asurred me that I'm at a very low risk, but still do you think there's a point in visiting again before my 3-months appointment?

No one here will advise you that this is a risk worth testing over. No one has ever been infected by receiving oral sex, and giving oral sex is about as much risk as the odds of you being trampled by a herd of elephants.  HIV symptoms aren't on & off, either.

Anxiety can do terrible things to us, physically, and I sure suspect that's what's causing your symptoms, if not the common cold.

I've read online that there is some chance of HIV from giving oral, but what is worrying me are those symptoms that I described. Is that a sign of anxiety, or am I one of those very rare cases?

You had no risk from what you have described. It is the position of the experts who used to post in the doctor's forum here in MedHelp that oral sex is not a risk. If you don't believe me, search the doctor's forum because there are millions of identical posts to yours asking the exact same question and every time they said it was no risk.  Since you had no risk then there is no reason to test.
