Is it that common?

Hello, I had unprotected anal sex with a partner who said was neg but 3 weeks later I went out and the weather was awfull, next day I developed exhudative tonsilitis and high fever, I had no other lymph nodes swollen or rash or any of that, two days later I had no fever and the tonsilitis had improved but still was there, now three months later I still have noticeable tonsilitis, particularly on one side, is it more common for the ARS sore throat to resolve itself farly quickly or it is known for lasting months?  I would like to know my chances before taking the test, thank you!

Hello  I knew I said it would be the last but I noticed 3 lumps on the base of each of my index fingers, they started an hour ago and they are getting bigger, they are lymph nodes, I'm shaking uncontrollably, I don't have anything on my neck, or arm, but is it common for hiv to start lymphadenopathy at three months? I know I should probably get tested tomorrow, which is my bggest fear in my life, but anyway any experience with enlarged lymph nodes on hands an HIV? Please help, you guys are the only thing I have right now!!!

Thank you teak, you gave me a minute of peace, I read your story and it was incredible, you must have half of a mutation protecting you from HIV you are very brave, thank you all for taking time to answer. I know I shoud be tested but I'm still terrified to do so, so here's a last question, in your knowledge, how long does the ARS fever lasts? Thank you!

Thank you for your answer, now after three months of tonsilitis small lumps behind my ear began to appear,  is that common with hiv or does it sound like something else? I know testing is the only way to know but f you have any experience with this it would be greatly appreciated.

The only way to know your status is by testing not symptoms.

Thank you, I know it was a major stupidity but I got to know him very well and  at that time the last thing that crossed my mind is someone like him having HIV,  he is very responsible and supposedly that was the first time without a condom for both of us,  so the symptoms came as a complete surprise to me,  but I guess you NEVER know. But apart from the test,  I would still like to know if you guys  have heard of ARS tonsilitis lasting many moths and if it is true that nasal congestion is a good (not perfect) indicator that it is not ARS, thank you!

Disregard any symptoms you are having. HIV cannot be diagnosed on the basis of symptoms, the only thing that matters is the degree of risk in the exposure and the subsequent result of testing.

You had an at risk exposure. Unprotected anal sex is the riskiest sexual practice if the partner is of unknown HIV status. If they have HIV (although of course the odds are he/she didnt) then there is a 1 in a 100 chance the virus was transmitted.

I wish you every success with your test, but urge you to be more careful in future.
