Just When My Anxiety Subsided, I Get Bad News

Last week I posted my unprotected vaginal encounter for the Dr. and got a very optimistic answer about my risk.  Although the girl swore she is clean and even had it in writing, I think I  have Chlamydia.  Two weeks after the incident I felt a tingling and constant urge to pee.  My testicles got swollen as well.  I went to the Dr. who treated me with Zithromax and Levaquin for Chlamydia and Gonhorrea.  I got blood work done for herpes and syphillis and urine tests for the Chlamydia and Gonhorrea.  They got the results back today and the Dr. wants to go over the results in person on Monday.  This morning I had some clear discharge which almost looked like pre-***.   The symptoms are pointing heavily in line with Chlamydia.  Now I am super concerned because this girl obviously lied about being clean because on these AIM certificates they also test for Chlamydia.  Here is my concern.  Obviously her vaginal secretions penetrated my urethra if I got Chlamydia.  Does this mean that there is a very good chance if she was HIV positive the virus got inside my urethra as well.  I really scared right now.  I promised myself I wouldn't come back here but after this, I don't know what to do.  Please let me know your feedback.  Thanks in advance.

Hey there!

Well well... as you said, the doctor found out everything was fine with me and my Jhonson! No Chlamydia, no Gonorhea! Because of the anxiety of the past weeks due to my hiv fear, I hadn't had any sexual activity (not even with myself), so it might have been a pre eyaculatory fluid like thought. This small amount of fluid (not even a drop) came out the way I described it above for two days (thursday and friday) then I masturbated on saturday and it stopped coming.

I feel very peaceful now that the doctor said I was fine and that the Abbot test I took at 5.5 weeks (plus using a condom) came out negative. The odds have gone down to nearly 0%. I will still have to wait for the famous week 13 to have another test taken but I finally got some sleep back.

Regards to you all and thanks for your support.

Manny.

You are welcome.

Sadly it is common for physicians to not give test results over the phone, positive or negative. They would never admitt to it, but financially speaking it is better business to have their clients come back in for a second visit.

If you trully did have chlamydia, the Zithromax should nip it right quick. Clear discharge is more of a chlamydia symptom than gonorhea.  Like I said, discharge to some degree, is normal, so it very well could be nothing.

The doctor may just want another co-pay in the tip jar, and to congratulate you.

Speaking of which, if you would, please post what occurs at your results.

Jim,

Thanks for your quick relpy. I couldn't wait until tomorrow because anxiety was killing me so I went on to a clinic this morning and got an hiv test (abbot) after 39 days of possible exposure (almost 6 weeks) and came back negative again! Thnk God! I think the odds of me having HIV are getting closer to 0%. I guess I will wait to see what the doc has to say on tuesday.

Like I mentioned I was wearing a condom, and if you add this test being negative at 5.5 weeks after possible exposure it really subsides my anxiety.

Will keep you guys posted. Thanks for answering so quickly... It's amazing how many people out there are surfing this site.

Regards.

I am a freaking docton in my proffession. I have worked in physician offices most of my carrer in the US, and then moved to Thailand for more of a challenge. I work at hospitals, give presentations at universities in China & Thailand thus far. I train physicians and physician staff. I work for 2 major multi national companies, and a company in Thailand.  I have owned my own consultant co. that dealt with international companies importing medical devices & diagnostic equipment in to the US.

So yea, I know a little about the medical field.

and because I am a doctor, I have to take CEU courses every year, so yes, I am still in school so to speak.

I am just here giving the facts and the facts are backed with links. But obvioulsy because you have an issue with me, you would rather bash on what I have posted.

I hope that others can see through this and at least read the links for futther information.

and with that... I am pushing the report button.

If you could read you wouldn't have Posted a comment about PCR RNA thinking they were talking about PCR DNA. Then to state PCR DNA is a Gold Standard test.

250 mg of ceftriaxone, intramuscularly, which is
the current therapeutic regimen of choice recommended by
the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention

http://aac.asm.org/cgi/reprint/37/8/1670.pdf

Hawaii and California have very high levels of resistance to fluoroquinolone antibiotics (ciprofloxacin, ofloxacin, levofloxacin) they are no longer used empirically to treat infections originating in these areas.

In the United Kingdom, the majority of patients with gonorrhea are treated in dedicated sexual health clinics. The current recommendation is for ceftriaxone

Have you ever had gonorrhea? Do you work in a Drs. office or a hospital? It's not the first line of drugs given in the US for gonorrhea.

Then what in the crud is?

Rocefin has become the first and last line of defence for gonorhea.

Did you even bother to read the links or even bother to read the CDC recomendations?

Again that is not the drug choice in the US.

Well, apparently the US is catching up to the rest of the world.

"THE RECOMMENDATION: The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention is urging doctors to treat U.S. gonorrhea patients with cephalosporin drugs, which include the generic ceftriaxone, also sold under the brand name Rocephin. "

Truth is Chlam is more contageous (sp) than HIV, but when you mix the two together...  that is bad news.  The original odds of contracting HIV decrease from the #  1- 2000.

"If you are HIV positive and have chlamydia, inflamed genital tissues contain highly concentrated amounts of the virus, causing 8-10 times more HIV to be shed in your semen or vaginal secretions. If you are HIV negative and have chlamydia, your immune cells are especially susceptible to HIV if your partner is carrying the virus. Rectal chlamydia may increase chances of getting HIV ten to twenty-fold."

http://www.dph.sf.ca.us/sfcityclinic/stdbasics/chlamydia.asp

That said, lets break this down. You wore a condom...  I don't see how you got anything really.  Truth is, if I REALLY wanted to, I could milk my johnson and get a drop out if I tried. The penis is lined with mucus, it is natural, it belongs there.

I could write a book regarding what I went through chasing an STD that was probably never there. I got a false positve for chlamydia. I say false positive, because the doctor used a "visualization" test under a microscope.  He dubbed me with chlamydia, then I had 3 swab tests that were negative, probably 8 urine cultures that were negative, 2 sperm cultures negative, one RNA negative chlamydia swab test, and one RNA negative urine sample test. Spent a ton of money too, and I probably harmed my body for a long time by all the antibiotics I took.

That said, your doctor sounds like a nice person. The use of Zithromax is pretty much standard for chlamydia, the treatment for gonorhea is now a shot of Rociphin rather than what you were given.

Hi, I am a 27 year old male.

Unbelievable... the only lines I read that gave some peace to my mind were yours "Monkeyflower". I wil share my case with you all. I had sex with a pro at a legalized brothel in Curacao (Netherlands Antilles) wearing a condom. I bring up the legalized brothel term since it implies that the girls are tested for std's on a regular basis.

She even gave oral sex with the condom and then we had vaginal sex. The condom didn't brake or anything and she was very careful when removing it.

This was my first time with a pro so I was kind of concerned about getting any disease. I got tested for hiv antibodies at 30 days after the encounter getting a negative result. VDRL came neg as well.

When I was starting to get my sleep back, 5 weeks after the exposure I am having this slight white to clear discharge a minor drop in the morning (like pre ***) and then if I squeeze my head I may get a little sample at noon and at night. This is the only symptom I am showing which corresponds to Chlamydia. I am going to see the doctor tomorrow but my fears were of me not only getting the Chla but hiv as well.

Haven't been able to sleep in days but hopefully will get some rest tonight since although I wore a condom ALL THE TIME, Chlamydia is way much more contagious than HIV (According to this and other forums).

I am getting retested tomorrow for HIV again as well (40 days after possible exposure). I am a healthy guy and have never had problems with my inmune system. Do you guys think the first HIV antibodies test at the 30 days was reliable?

Guys, thanks for the support.  Im just going out of my mind here.  Never had unprotected sex before in my life and had a lapse of judgement for a minute and after you freak out why a professional would mount you without a condom makes you think she has nothing to lose because she's infected.  Then she tells you she is clean and has a certificate to prove it, eases your mind for a bit and you are cruising for two and a half weeks and then you realize you contracted an STD from the incident it scares the **** out of me even more because now you know she is a total liar and probably has never been tested for HIV or anything else if she has Chlamydia.

I understand your point about not having Chlamydia before the incident doesn't increase my risk, but I was under the impression that if the female has Chlamydia, and HIV, HIV would be present in higher concentrations because the body's immune system of the female is working on the Chlamydia infection.

Maybe I am just paranoid and reading too much into it, I just feel like I am in trouble.  Not trying to be the total worried well, but after a 3 day absence from the boards after the Dr. said I looked like I had a good chance of being ok, the STD put me back in a panic.

Thanks for hearing me out.

I've been exactly where you are, all I can tell you from my personal experience is  our mind can compel us to think about many unnecessary things and do stuffs which can drive us crazy

The odds are very much in your favor and remember your fears are purely based on your own assumptions, She could very well be HIV NEGATIVE and by no means it's necessary that if she has other STDs HIV is compulsory and above all HIV IS VERY FRAGILE UNLIKE OTHER STDs

Seek counseling for your fears, test at the 6-8 week mark and move on !

Reality check:

First of all, you didn't get bad news, your doctor just said s/he wanted to go over the results with you. Don't jump to conclusions.

Second, your discharge this am probably *was* pre-ejaculate. Most guys get erections in their sleep, and almost always around the time they wake up.

Third, you were already treated, so you *know* that whatever your symptoms now, they aren't a sign of chlamydia or gonorrhea. I know you're anxious, but you're totally overanalyzing/overthinking this.

Finally, I don't know where you get the idea that if someone has a STD, s/he automatically must have HIV, but it seems to be the prevailing view on these kinds of boards. As others have already replied, HIV is much, much more difficult to catch/transmit, and the risks are much, much smaller. Particularly for female-to-male transmission.

Breathe. Get off the internet. Go do something you normally enjoy, visit friends, go out to dinner. Anything to get you out of the house and off the computer. And if you really can't let this go, seek counseling.

I think you're being overly concerned about HIV in this situation.

yes, it is very common for HIV *NOT* to be transmitted while other STDS were because the other ones are MUCH more infectious and easier to transmit.

Okay, what I understand by reading your incidence is, your concern is that once you have another STD, HIV can be contracted more easily, but this is not the case in your situation because you didn't have chlamydia prior to the event.

Keep in mind that this was a very very brief encounter

Regards

Mike

You are correct on both your assumptions. HIV is very difficult to transmit, compared to other std's.

The odds are on you side. I will fully expect nothing other than a negative result.

Any questions feel free to ask. Try not to worry though.

Yes definitely helps, last question for you and I will leave you alone.  So based on what you are saying, 1 minute or less of unprotected vaginal intercourse in theory may make it harder for HIV to transmit if it were present in the vaginal secretions?  Where as the bacteria exposure can happen more easily?  Thanks again, as I said your knowledge is appreciated.
