Just been told different statistics....

Hi all, just been to get a still test (feel free to check other post) and was told the hiv orally is a small risk but is not impossible.

He said through every 100 people they see, 1 to 2 of those have gotten it from oral sex (MSM) only.

This shocked me a bit

What I thought which is why I thought it was weird when he said he sees 1 to 2 people with it.

This is a misleading information. Oral sex carries only theoretical risk. So far no documented case of HIV transmission through oral sex alone

Dental work is not a risk.
We also discussed this issue in your previous thread.
I'm not doubting that that's what you were told.  I'm doubting the doctor's accuracy, given that the most prominent and trustworthy HIV information sites state that there have only been a handful of documented cases worldwide from giving MSM oral sex.  1-2% is the highest number far and away that anyone has ever given, and without peer-reviewed publication of those statistics to back them up, I am extremely skeptical of their accuracy - as should anyone else be.
Here's the summary from a pretty well-known study involving couples with one HIV+ partner and one HIV- partner.  In 19,000+ instances of oral sex, not a single HIV- partner contracted HIV.

I've got no concern for myself (diddnt till he said haha) just thought it was interesting how he said different that what the reports state.

It is highly unlikely. The smallest of chances i believe your doctor is referring to could be due to major trauma (not a small scratch but more like recent dental work). Even then it would be No Risk for the insertive Partner because 1) Saliva deactivates the virus 2) It is not easy for HIV to gain entry into the penile mucosa

I find those "statistics" to be highly dubious, as the best doctors at the busiest HIV clinics in the world don't say anything like that.
