As already mentioned, please contact the manufacturer of the test with questions about how the test works.

Here is a link to an article on rapid tests from the CDC. IIR it explains how the controls work. I posted this for someone else who was questioning rapid tests (I hope you're not the same person?):

With all due respect, it's a totally silly question.
Like I said, you would have to ask the manufacturer if you really need an answer, as I have no idea whether you would still get a negative result, or if the control line would indicate that the test is invalid.
If you did the test correctly...then you have nothing more to wonder about. These sound like anxiety-fueled questions perhaps coming from you questioning the testing process? If that's the case and you're overthinking the test...then that indicates your anxiety needs reeled in.
Hold on a second... Lets not get abrupt here, Im simply asking if you never swabbed your gums would it still show a negative result. I followed the directions and got a negative result. I was just curious how it knows if the gums were swabbed. Thats all... Thx
Oh, I see that you were asking something different. If the test instructions are not followed, then the test would not be valid. If you're going to use a home test, obviously you must use the swab and follow the instructions.
Any other questions about the test should be referred to the manufacturer.
The swab wouldn't be used, that is irrational thinking. I think maybe you need to seek some professional help.
I followed the directions and got a negative result i was wondering if anyone knew how the test can tell the difference if the swab was never used??
Please refer to the testing instructions included with your test by the manufacturer. Since no one would ever bother running the test without swabbing, this question is hypothetical. If you have questions about whether you followed all instructions, you can review the instructions, contact the manufacturer of the test, or discuss with your physician.
