PCR BELOW 20? sorry guys need your help on this one.

Hey guys, thanks for taking your time to read my message, I'm sure you have read millions of these by now!!
i just want to ask regarding my latest PCR test results.

My HIV came negative but however the PCR test results indicate below 20 copies and below 1.3 Log detected . Please have a look and let me know, i have been panicking a lot as i had sex with an HIV positive person whom was recently detected and without medication) but she told me that she did the test and the doctor told her that she was not in danger of spreading the virus to me as her virus is in the "safe zone". please have a look at my test results and reply to me as soon as possible. thank you guys.

HIV-1 DNA PCR

test principle: Real time PCR

Target Selected: Highly conserved sequence among the various HIV-1 group M subtypes and HIV-1 group O is selected for amlification and detection

Equipment: COBAS Ampliprep and COBAS TaqMan

Specimen: EDTA PLASMA

Result:
HIV-1 Viral Load (Quantitative): *written in RED - BELOW 20 COPIES / ML
Log Value: *written in red - BELOW 1.30

Result Interpretation:

Target no detected: HIV RNA Not detected
Below 20 copies/ml: HIV RNA Detected, less than 20 HIV RNA copies/ml
>20- 10000000: HIV RNA Detected within the linear range of the assay.
Above 10000000: HIV RNA Detected above the linear range of the assay.

Note: this assay is quantitive assay used for monitoring patients on therapy and not a qualitative assay used for screening. Hence a target not detective should not be considered as HIV-1 status Negative for patient

Thanks guys , i just would like to know if i should be worried. I'm panicking the hell out! I've read some people that are below 20 copies they are safe, and PS when i did the test i had a terrible flu (they say it might effect the result).

Thank you,
Thomas

None of us on this forum are doctors, let alone HIV Specialists. As you have been advised, you should return to the clinic for a full explanation of your results.

The one very concerning aspect of your test results was the "NOTE"  at the end of the report which stated:

This assay is a QUANTITIVE assay used for MONITORING PATIENTS  ON THERAPY and NOT a QUALITATIVE assay used FOR SCREENING.
HENCE, A TARGET NOT DETECTED SHOULD NOT BE CONSIDERED AS HIV-1 STATUS NEGATIVE FOR PATIENT.

Please go back to the clinic.

This is not a clinic so maybe no one knows. Why don't you ask the clinic that tested you?
