Please Help

Hi, apologies for my question.

I've done something unbelievably stupid. After a long time of being alone and not engaging in any sex, I met a guy, got carried away and had unprotected anal intercourse. We both "topped" and "bottomed", neither of us ejaculated.

I guess what I'm trying to work out is how likely it is I've been exposed to HIV?

And...

Whether I should seek PEP therapy?
Has anyone out taken PEP, what was your experience?

Thank you for any information.

You can take PEP up to 72 hour's after exposure and Accident and Emergency Dept's will supply it. As will GUM clinics.

That's what I assumed. I do think you should get tested at 28 days, just to rule out anything crazy that happened. Because at the end of the day, you did indeed have a risk.

Any unprotected penetration. i.e vaginal or anal is a risk.
Ejaculation or not is of secondary interest.
You need to test at 28 days with a DUO or at 12 weeks with a simple antibody test.
Speculating on statistical possibilities is at this point irrelevant.

Once again, thank you for taking the time to reply.

My logical brain tends to agree; my irrational, fear filled brain is doing sunmersaults.

What about the risk from precum?

If you're sure he didn't, then I wouldn't say you need PEP, because that is how the virus is transmitted.  Someone else may have different advice.  Honestly, it's your call.  Go with your gut.

Thank you for responding.

I am absolutely certain he did not ejaculate inside me.

This happened just over seven hours ago.

Yes. I know it is high risk. Yes. I shouldn't have done it.

I a absolutely sure he didn't ejaculate inside me. The exposure occurred seven hours ago.

Unprotected anal sex is a high risk exposure

Do you know your partner's history? How long ago was your exposure? Are you sure he didn't ejaculate?
