Possible Exposure in South Africa!!

Hello guys,

I really hope you are able to offer me some constructive advice anyour opinions.

First of all, i know you have all heard it before, but i have been a complete idiot!

I had sex with a CSW in Cape Town, South Africa of all places!!!!! I know the percentage of south african prosititutes with HIV is probably way up in the 70's or 80's?

Extremally drunk i took her back to where i was staying, she looked about 24 and didnt look unhealthy.
We started having oral sex unprotected which is safe from what i can gather. We then started having intercourse but with a condom on. In my drunken state, struggling to keep an erection i pulled it off and threw it out the window. She did however point blank refuse to carry on with no condom, which makes me think she was HIV positive and didnt want to give it to me. I then put another condom on and finished off with intercourse.

The next morning i woke up sober and in a complete panic!
I checked the second condom i used and it did not break. However it was very close to its 'used by' date so am worried some of her infected fluid may have seeped through.
I also couldnt check the 1st condom as id thrown it. She did however, make me pull out at one stage with the first one to ensure it wasnt broken and it looked ok.

She seemed very nervous about it all, and i am a very fit looking young athlete so she had no reason to be unless she had the virus right?

1) is it 70-80% that she is HIV positive?
2) could flkuid creep through the condom as it was very close to used by date?
3) were her actions suspicious?
4) is it easy to spot a split in condom as i may have noticed it in first one?
5) do you think i have a chance of catching it?
6) should i get a DUO test after 8 weeks or just antibody test after 13?

Thanks a LOT for your time guys. very scared!

Thanks nursegirl for the reassureing comments..
I am going to test at 13 weeks just to be sure as i have had fever now for a whole week, along with sore throat, muscle fatigue and head ache..
I know protection was used but im still slightly concerned that it was a free south african goverment condom and i didnt check it.. Also a recent survey i read states that a quarter of the worlds HIV + females are in south Africa..
These symptoms are identical to those of ARS and in the 2-6 week time period for it to start. Anyways, fingers crossed that the condom stayed intact and worked.

You don't need to check condoms.  You would havw known if it broke, your penis would have been completely exposed, the condom would have been broken wide open.  Time to stop worrying about this.

You never had an exposure, you wore a condom and condoms work.  It doesn't matter when the expiration date was, all that matters is that the condom remained intact.

Also, you are wrong to assume that the CSW was + because of her insistance that you use protection.  Quite the opposite actually.  Despite their riskier behaviors and lifestyles, most csw's do NOT have HIV because they insist on their clients using protection.  She was protecting herself from YOU.

Again, you had no risk for HIV.  You may have been exposed to non HIV stds, which is why it would be a good idea to seek out standard STD testing, but an HIV test is not needed.

after the sound advice i didnt give it another thought for 3 weeks so this cannot be anxiety.. I am now at 4 weeks since the episode and have chronic sore throat, head ache, painful eyeballs, dizziness, tigling and general fatique.. Now making me worry that these are ARS symptoms and the condom must have broke :( I know the symptoms could be just flu but they are also typical of ARS right fellas? Thanks

I am very knowledgable on the topic and therefore I am convinced you never had a risk because you were protected, also there really is no need to test as any HIV test you have from this encounter will be negative.I would move on from this and put it all behind you.All the best.

I know thank god she did!
i just read that its a 1 in 1000 chanc of an uncirsumsised male to catch i from a positive woman foma single encounter. A little bit reassuring anyway.. I suppose, those odds will be even greater as i dont think the condom broke..
Will still take a DUO test at 8 weeks or antibody test at 13. Probably the latter as thats whats offered on the NHS locally to me..
Still a bit worried but do feel reassured as you do seem knowledgable on the topic :)

I know about the epidemic in South Africa but you would have known if the condom broke,it would have been obvious, also even if the condom was approaching it's used by date,as long as it didn't break you're fine.I think you got very lucky when she insisted you wear another condom after throwing the first one out the window.

so the closer to its sell by date the weaker it becomes?
I have no idea if the first condom had broke or not and you still dnt think i need to test bearing in mind the epidemic in Africa?

It makes me smile to even hear the optimistic words you write..
I know ive been a dick head and i will learn a lesson..
Its just you hear sooooo much about the epidemic in south africa.
why is it that condoms have sell by dates?? Also i notice that i have a small cut on my finger that was used at one time, does that add any risk?
