Possible condom break /HIV

Although swearing off sex, I found myself in the heat of the moment with my boyfriend (who received a six week negative since the last time he had sex with someone else) and I ended up topping him during anal sex. I made sure to use a condom and lots of lube, and after the act I "checked" the condom..
Even though I checked, is there any chance I could have missed the fact that it broke? To my knowledge it did not, I just really don't know what I'm actually looking for.

So there is really no need to "check" condoms?
And had it broke, it wouldn't have even been able to hold any water at all right? Like it would've just gone straight through?

so it will generally bunch at the base? regardless of how "tight" the condom?

Ok, thank you so much Teak. One final question: I honestly cannot find anything about this anywhere.. What does a broken condom look like? If a condom ever breaks, will I always be able to know without a doubt?

You never water check a condom, had it failed you would have known.

Thank you for replying Teak. So as long as it "seems" intact, it really is unnecessary to water check/inspect them closely? The internet/other people's opinions on this are driving me insane, and I know I can sincerely trust the answerers here.

No, when a condom fails it fails catastrophically.
