Hi,
I'm a 17 year old homosexual male. I've had two previous relationships, in both of which I had unprotected oral sex - I don't know their HIV status but do know that they're not particularly promiscuous. The last time was the 16th March. About five days the final encounter I developed a mild sore throat. The next day I woke up with a really bad sore throat and swollen glands, more symptoms that were similar to a mono infection later occurred (that's what the doctor thought it was at first). It went away after about a week or so but I never found out what the virus was.
Two weeks after my last possible exposure I went for a HIV test, which was negative. I was supposed to go back after a couple of months for another test but I just couldn't bring myself to do it.
Skip forward to yesterday, I have a rash on my penis which was causing me so much pain that I had to go back the clinic to get it checked out. They said the rash was just an allergic reaction/eczema. Anyway, they also offered me a HIV test as routine. I won't get the results for a week but I can't stop worrying about the result, especially since I just saw a video of a man who contracted HIV when he was my age (admittedly, it didn't say how he got it) which developed to AIDS after only 6 months!
I understand that oral sex is low risk but the timing of my symptoms seems to point towards possible HIV.
Basically, I just want to know if I should be worrying or not. I'm naturally quite an anxious person and with situations like this I can work myself into such a state that I can't seem to think logically.
Thanks a lot :)
