Hello,
I am wondering if it is possible that a phimosis condition can decrease somehow the odds of contracting HIV. Phimosis is a condition where the foreskin cannot be fully retracted over the glans penis, at least when erect. I suffer from this skin problem.
Since I had two sexual exposures in my life, both protected, but once with unprotected oral sex (HIV negative one year after), I was asking myself if it was possible that my phimosis could "protect" me. Indeed, during intercourse, my foreskin doesn't pull back; therefore, my glans isn't exposed at all, or perhaps a little.
Could it be a sort of natural protection? I know that uncircumsized men are more likely to catch HIV, but if the skin covers the glans, is it still a risk?
I add that I will always have protected sex, no matter what. But I just wanted to know if you had an idea about this.
Thank you.
The above answer is incorrect because the vulnerable tissue that leads to transmission in males (with unprotected sex) is the mucosal lining of the urethra. Therefore, the only point of entry would be the urethra.
You have no worries. You've never had a risk.
