Question for Teak

Hi, Teak.

If you have time...what can you tell me about angular cheilitis as it relates to HIV.  There seems to be a lot of conflicting information on the web about this.  The doctors on this site seem to think the association is pretty tenuous at best.

Is it generally associated with late-stage infection or early?  There are sites that claim it's usually an indication of early infection, but others say it's rare until full-blown AIDS develops.  I thought I remember Dr. Handsfield saying it's usually a later-stage condition, but now I can't find that post.

Thanks, Teak.  Hope you're well

My apologies, Chris.  I was mostly joking, making fun of my own paranoia when I accused you of trying to scare me.  I do appreciate the information.  I was at the dentist yesterday and he saw no signs of thrush.

Angular Cheilits is a particularly annoying condition if you're paranoid like me.  My GP told me it's extremely common.  Teak and Dr. Hook said it's got little to do with HIV, and Dr. Handsfield said it's really mostly seen (in relation to HIV) in people with overt AIDS.  Yet, if you're dumb like me and you insist on Googling it, you'll find it mentioned in relation to HIV on lots of sites.  I guess this just proves there's a lot more sites devoted to HIV then to common dermatological conditions.

Now that both you, Teak, and Dr. Hook have reassured me about this (and about my low-to non-existent risk - few incidences of insertive oral), I'll get out of everyone's hair.

Thanks to you, Teak, and everyone for sharing info.

Angular cheilitis, is not a symptom of HIV. It can happen to anyone at any time. I get it if I eat fresh red ripe tomatoes. That's why I only eat yellow tomatoes, because of the acid content.
