Questions about Window periods

What does it really mean when they say the windows period varies from 18 days to 6weeks? Does it means you don't have to count from the exposure date?

Window period depends on the kind of test you use. In the case of HIV, if it's a 4th generation test, the window period is 28 days, and if it's a 3rd generation test, the window period is 3 months.

Thanks for your response. Am talking of Hiv 1/2 An + p24 Ag. 24 days from the exposure date? Does this mean if I tested in 5 weeks and it comes negative am on better side?
That's a 4th generation test, as it's looking ro p24, so 28 days after the exposure it's accurate.
Thanks very much for your help.. 28day from exposure date?
