Recovered a drowned person infected with HIV

Hi,

I am a rescue diver and I've recently recovered a drowned person. The gears that I used were regular SCUBA gears and I wasn't wearing any gloves. During the recovery, I had full contact with the body and on the surface, I came in contact with the foam and blood from the mouth and nose of the deceased with my bare hands. I was later told that the drown person that I recovered was infected with HIV.

What are the risk of me getting infected with HIV?

Should I get myself tested?

Should I take any precautionary measures in future during similar task?

How long can HIV or Hep C virus survive in the open waters?

Thanks for answering to my questions.

"move on" "We really don't care what you think."
1.Are you kicking me out of this group and the option to voice my responses to questions?

2. What is wrong with me voicing my input.  I did not try to act or sound like I know it all nor did I use any improper language when expressing my self.

3.Nothing I said is untrue or misguided.  I own my comments and opinions as my own and not as "WE"

4.I read your comment and said a prayer for you as anyone obviously saying such rude things to a persons response in my opinion, presents as an angry, self-centered person.

i wish you well and will continue to pray that you will be able to soften your answers and accept that you may not know everything.

I was talking with a friend of mine, as said that I wish that HIV didn't have such a bad rap, and hopefully that will change in the future...

I will not pretend to be an expert nor am I very impressed with some of the responses I received here from the HIV Prevention.  If you have any doubts or concerns I would go to your county health department and speak to a nurse there.  Fear of the unknown can be very difficult to live with.  Medical science continues to come up with changes all the time that may make a difference in what is believed to be true today.  There is also the fact that each individual  is different and the standard recommendations are strictly guidelines but are not written in gold.   I wish you well.
