worried about hiv infected

hi, I have genital herpes ( and i only get breakout on my groin area only, very mild), recently I had a vaginal intercourse with a person, I used condom during the whole action, I had a small size pimple on my groin, which it was not a open sore ( at least by my eyes was not open ), and I did take my medicine for herpes that day also. now, I am worried if there is chances for hiv transmitting  thru the pimple on my groin from her vaginal fluid. I am a little worry, please let me know if I should be concern about this matter.

Thanks,

No, the chance of you getting HIV from vaginal fluid getting on your groin during sex is virtually zero.  I would not worry about it.  EWH

Thanks for the response, yes, i did a blood test, and it was positive, so I only had breakout on my groin area, which is very rare, and I had came back very mild i past year for couple of times. anytime, I feel tingly in my groin or if i see a little red spot, i immediately take my prescription for 5 days, so last time I had intercourse, few days before, i noticed very tiny bump on my groin, which was not look like a blister either, but i did start taking the pills, and when we did have sex, I used condom the entire time. then later i started thinking if her vaginal fluid my enter my body thru that little bump on my groin, and what if she has hiv or not. so, I got a little worry about it. so, my final questions for you, is there a chance to get hiv form her vaginal fluid by a sore on my groin?

Welcome back to our Forum.  My answer has two parts.

First, with regard to your recent exposure, the chances are that your recent partner does not have HIV (Less than 1 in 10,000 American women who do not use IV drugs has HIV) and even if she did, your risk from getting herpes after a single exposure is low, far less than 1%.  There is very little risk of HIV from this exposure.  It is appropriate however for ANYONE with new sexual partners, whether or not they have herpes or any other STD, and whether or not they have symptoms, to get screened for STDs, including HIV, about once a year.  As a matter of personal protection, we recommend annual testing for anyone who has had two or more sex partners in the past year (we consider this to be health maintenance- we also recommend you get your blood pressure and cholesterol checked regularly).

The second part of my answer related to your statement that you have herpes.  I note that you have asked both Terri and me about the possibility of herpes in the past.  We were each skeptical that this was the case.  Did you have a laboratory diagnosis of herpes since our last exchange?  if so, what sort of test was done.  Both Terri and I suspected you were more likely to have folliculitis than herpes.

I hope these comments are helpful.  EWH
