Risks from Condom Slip

Hello,

I was having sex with my ex-wife two days ago and during the act the condom slipped off. I would have to guesstimate that I was inside her for less then 20 sec's before I noticed the condom came off.  I know she has had many sexual partners and does not always use protection. I'm pretty scared right now, how high is the risk of me getting HIV or other dieases?

Thank you for your help

Welcome to the Forum. this was a low risk event. HIV is uncommon in women. Here in North America, fewer than 1 in 10,000 women have HIV.  further, even in the unlikely situation that she had HIV, the risk for infection from any single exposure is less than 1 infection per 1000 exposures.  Your risk for HIV is tiny.

If your ex has had other partner and not been checked recently, you are at higher risk for other STIs such as chlamydia, gonorrhea or NGU than HIV.  It may be worthwhile for you to get screened for these problems if you are concerned although most often these problems would lead to symptoms.  EWH
