Risky sex at Bali with a sex worker

Dear Doctor,

I had UNPROTECTED oral sex and protected vaginal sex with a sex worker at Bali on 10th June.
I started to be worried as read a news article saying 25% of sex workers carry HIV at Bali.

This is the 4th week since the date I had sex at Bali, and I have returned to Sydney.
Just wondering how long do I need to wait to have myself tested in order to get a conclusive result? 6 weeks or 3 months? (I don't want to describe my symptoms here as I have understood they are not specific for HIV)
Also, do you happen to know which generation of test is used in Australia for HIV?

Many thanks!

Another fellow Australian, you had no HIV risk my friend, oral sex is not a risk & the vaginal sex was protected--welldone.Ok,no testing is required & if you ring sydney sexual health or St Vincents they will tell you this. They normally use 3rd or 4th generation tests in Australia.Be happy you never had a risk. All the best.

No a 6 week test will not give you a conclusive test result, had you had a risk which you did not.

Thank you very much!

Is 6-week long enough to cover the window period and get a conclusive result?

You will get results back the same day or the day after--laverty pathology is excellent.
