I am trying to muster the courage to start the prescription of atripla.
Any tips would be appreciated.
Thank you

You have been lucky so far.  But if you are not treated, probably you will die within a few years. With treatment, you probably will live a normal life span. If you want to see your kids grow up and have grandchildren to hug, it seems like a pretty easy decision. Just do it.

Thank you Howard for responding. After I wrote my question,I saw that this was for prevention :( I have been hiv + for over 20 years, only took meds thru two pregnancies years ago. After my recent labs,t cell 300, viral load,40,000, doctor of course is urging me to start meds. Today is supposed to be my start date for meds, got cold feet, I guess.

This forum is only for HIV prevention, not treatment of known infection. If you have been diagnosed with HIV, stop delaying and just start taking your pills.

If you were prescribed Atripla as post-exposure prophylaxis (PEP) because you were exposed to HIV, what's stopping you? PEP effectivness declines rapidly with increasing time since exposure. So if you're going to do it, just suck it up and take the first dose. However, if you're not certain your risk was high enough, have another conversation with the doctor or clinic where the drug was prescribed.
