Sub Types

I've tested negative out to 98 days via a few different types of test. However only my 86 day test was an HIV 1/2 test and the 98 day test tested only for HIV-1. It is possible that I was infected with HIV N strain or O strain and would these tests have caught it?

I Had an oraquick advance on the 86 day mark. The brochure said it tests for HIV 1 and 2 at the clinic but the brochure also said up to six months and the man at the center says if I had been infected with HIV 2 it would show up as equivocal instead ofpositive.

Different antibodies. HIV1 and HIV2 are two different types of HIV.

But why different tests for HIV 1 and 2 then? Arent  they different strains? Would the results have at least been equivocal for a wierd strain?

The tests aren't looking for strains they are looking for antibodies or antigens.

Teak I like how you do not sugar coat man and stick to the facts which you seem to know quite well. From everything I've read a 14 week should put me in the clear but I can't shake this fear of sub strains and delayed conversion. Just to know though are the tests licensed to detect the more rare strains?
