Polyurethane condoms have been on the market since 1994 and are very reliable.
Depends on which condom you are talking about what your risks are. There are ultra thin latex and the newer polyurethane type for latex allergic people. The problem with the ultra thin latex is that they are a little more likely to break. The polyurethane are strong and their HIV safety tests are still in progress, at least to the best of my knowledge. Both types come lubed and unlubed.
