Test Results

Hello everyone,

i will cut to the point immediately, so i wont give you any headaches.

I had a possible HIV-exposure back then, but i am not sure how certain of an exposure that was.

So anyway I had a PCR-test for HIV 1 and 2 THREE weeks after that possible exposure and then again an ELISA-TEST of 4. generation THIRTEEN weeks later. Both test results are negativ. But my doctor is still advising me to let me test again 6 months after the exposure to be sure.

Cant I just be sure of that i m definitely negative? Should i still be worried? Or am i possibly one of these exceptional cases by which the antibodies wont show up, even after 13 weeks?

I haven't had any transplantations in my life or i am not an alcoholic/drug-addict.. I will also define me as a healthy middle aged person, who doesn't suffer under any health conditions.. I am only a social drinker and smoker.. Is it really possible that i have a weak immune system, so these antibodies wont be created after 13 weeks?

I will be very glad if i get any answers from you.

Best regards!

Thank you for your comment Teak!

Well i am coming from Germany and my doctor too. I just don't get it why my doctor is still saying me things like this, that causes me real mental problems regarding to that i just can't make myself believe the results must be conclusive. In the end it is a 3 weeks of PCR-negative and 13 weeks of ELISA-negative, right?

May i again ask why the need of being tested again 6 months after the exposure was valid till 2004 and is now not anymore?

What has changed? The tests, the virus? Or was is also just a piece formality back then?

Best regards..
