HIV Risk of Infection

Hi,
I am going nuts. I can't sleep, eat and am having symptoms. Here is what happened. On October 22nd, I got drunk and had sex with a guy friend. I had my period, we used a condom and he came inside me with the condom on. When he took it off, it didnt appear that it was broken. He pulled out right after ejaculation. About a week later, I started getting a cough, which progressed to a sore throat, swollen right lymph node on my neck and  then a few days later I got white bumps on my tongue which hurt and bled when scraped off. I asked him to go take an HIV test, he took one at the STD center, a rapid test which came back negative. I am still scared especially since I was on my period and am probably more susceptible to infection. The guy is very promiscous and Ive heard lately that hes been around. Im super scared. What do you think my risk is? I made an appointment with my doctor to get tested at 4 weeks.

Thanks!

Thank you. I will ask the doc for the duo test. I don't want to worry about this anymore.

You never had a risk and don't need testing.

Although you had no risk,if you are going to insist on testing the i suggest you have the DUO test which looks for both p24 antigen and antibodies and that is when the p24 antigen is at it's peak.If this test is negative you can put this whole matter to bed and forget about it.That test is 99% accurate at 4 weeks.

Thanks all, it's just that I dont understand these symptoms. I'm really hoping the condom didnt break. It didnt seem like it and he said it didnt. Plus he tested negative a week after this happened, so I keep reminding myself of that. I will get tested at 6 weeks. I was thinking about the HIV DNA test also which you can take at two weeks I think. I really need to ease my mind and dont know if I can wait a full 3 months for conclusive results.

Move on. The OP didn't have an exposure and doesn't need testing.

Well, i would say that since he was wearing a condom, and that you don't think that it broke, that your chances of exposure are probably 0.  However, if you're going nuts--as I know from experience--get tested.  however, 4 weeks isn't long enough.  6-8 weeks is a good indicator of what it the likely outcome, while 3mo is 100% conclusive.

You do not have an HIV concern, you had protected sex.
