Hello all,
I am a woman in her early 30's who was sexually assaulted almost 6 weeks ago by someone who has refused to get tested for ANYTHING. I went to the clinic several days after the assault to be tested for most of what could have been contracted, but have had to wait for HIV.
This has been causing me significant worry. I have been number-crunching to find solace. The epi numbers in my county show that in his racial/ethnic group there is a 0.225-0.90% chance that he's infected depending on his risk factors.
I went for a test at day 33 which came out negative. Yes, I do plan on a 3 month follow-up test.
My questions are:
I am on acyclovir thanks to an unfaithful ex-husband. But, I didn't start it until 2 days after the assault because I didn't have a prescription. Does this delay HIV seroconversion and make my 33 day test pointless? I know there is discussion about acyclovir possibly interfering with HIV production, but I cannot find any study about the seroconversion rates of HIV when already taking acyclovir.
Would it be too soon to test at 60 days just for piece of mind?
