Contaminated cotton ball?

Hello I had my blood drawn for the test and when the phlebotomist was pressing the cotton pad and attempting to tape it up the tape got loose and the cotton pad went swinging and touched the seat. The phlebotomist used the SAME cotton pad to wipe off the blood from my blood draw wound and thenbandit up again. Is this a risk if the cotton pad touched the seat and then my new wound? Considering worst case scenario that there had been left over blood on the seat from somebody who were infected? I want to emphasize that it was the same ONE cotton pad used throughout this whole ordeal. Perhaps she brought in another used one too but she never disposed of the one that touched the seat and used it still as a bandage.

You have been fully advised by several of our members that you were not at risk for HIV, and about the ways that HIV can be transmitted.  Blood on cotton balls is not a method of transmission, and there is nothing more for our members to say.

I know I should have been able to tell if there was other blood on the cotton pad but since she had used it to apply pressure to my wound BEFORE it got undone I don’t know if the blood on it was only mine or also somebody else’s

But it does survive in blood so if there were blood on the seat and the cotton pad touched the blood then my wound immediately would it be a risk?

Except the cotton pad touched the seat where many other people get their blood drawn and possibly spilled. If there was blood and virus on the seat that the cotton pad touched and it then touched my fresh blood draw wound would that be a risk?

No it would not be a risk. HIV is unable to infect outside the body. It doesn't live on surfaces like chairs, counters, tissues, or cotton balls. Like I said, you're fine. You really need to stop obsessing and move on.

Hello why is this not considered a risk if possible blood got into my wound?

Because there was no blood except your own and you can't get infected by your own blood. You're fine.

Not a risk for transmission. below are the only ways HIV can spread amongst adults:

1. Unprotected vaginal or anal intercourse
2. Sharing needles intravenously with people who inject drugs.
