HIV testing

HI,

I had penetrative vaginal sex with a sex worker with a condom a few weeks ago. I am concerned that I should have an HIV test due to condoms being quoted as only around 80% effective. Is this correct?

thanks

I think you might have read about their effectiveness about preventing pregnancy, but that's higher than 80%.  The reason it's not 100% effective is because they sometimes break, but yours didn't.

Correct, it's 100% effective if it doesn't break - which ALWAYS involves a large rip down the seam and it hangs in tatters so you would have noticed and posted if that happened. However in your case you didn't mention a large rip so it is 100% effective.

No, it's 100% effective. Otherwise sw would not be protected very well, so they would not spend money to buy them.
