Would you have started PEP if.....

...you had been the recipient of unprotected anal intercourse from a heterosexual male who you did not know well but have no reason to assume is HIV positive?  He is not gay or bisexual, does not use intravenous drugs, and I know he has only had a small number of partners (maybe 4).  He also told me the last time he had sex was 7 months prior to us.  STUPID, I know, but it happened and I can't undo it.  I had never heard of PEP until nearly the 5th day after exposure but probably would have started it had I known it exists.  He did not ejaculate, nor was there any precum ( I know because we had already had oral sex) so I'm hoping the fact that he did not ejaculate helps me in terms of exposure.

This was the biggest mistake of my life and I am scared.  We used a condom for much of the interlude, somehow just not during anal -- I must have been insane!!!!  :(  I am all set to take the new FDA-approved Architect test (similar to DUO in England) which tests for p24 antigens and antibodies on day 16.

Please, someone tell me the odds are in my favor.

Thanks for your reassuring comment.  I just got finished cyber-stalking the guy's Facebook page--pathetic I know, but trying to figure out if he's somehow different than how he described himself.  I came away feeling really reassured -- nothing on there to make me suspicious or think that he was telling me anything other than the truth.

I will NEVER do anything like this again.  I know that's what everyone says, but trust me, this week has been like a living hell.  Nothing good happens after 2am, especially when alcohol is involved :(

Time to stop obsessing over this... I'm going to stop assuming the worst and let each day pass until I can go get tested.

Well PEP is not an option anymore as you probably know, But PEP is mostly given to people that had an exposure to a KNOWN HIV+ partner. This is not the case with you. Odds on the other hand, We dont state odds on here but from what you decribe the odds are on your side.  Testing is the only way of knowing your status. A antibody test is reccomended at 3 moonths to rule out infection of HIV.
