exposure and plenty of ARS symptoms

Hi Doctor(s),

I recently just arrived back home from a trip to Thialand where I had sex with a CSW (on the 18th August). Initially I used protection but after intercorse (I didn't enjaculate) I pulled off the condom and later tried to put the condom back on, I was drunk, and not sure if I put it back on inside out. We had intercourse for a further 5 minutues.

The day after the incodent I had severe fatigue and 24 hours after that I had aches and pains running down both my arms. Then 72 hours after exposure the aches got worse and I developed a small red (acne looking) rash on my left bicep (which stayed for about 3 days). Also at the same time I had pins and needles in both hands which didn't subside for another 5 days.

Those were the only symptoms I endured within the first week of exposure. During the second week the pins and needles subsided and the aches were less. One morning the aches returned in my left arm and the rash re-appeared, and I had pains in both arm pits, also feeling very fatigued.

During the later part of the second week of exposure my glands in my groin were hurting and I could actually feel the right gland was swollen.

My symtoms today are only my glands in my groin are still slightly swollen. I woke today very sweaty also, but I don't think I have a fever.

I read from other posts that it's 1 - 1,000 chance of contracting HIV, but I seem to have had a lot of the ARS/ acute HIV symptoms so It is alrming me.

Are there any tests which a doctor could do after 24 days of exposure such as antiretroviral therapy (ART)? and take a normal HIV tblood test 6 weeks after exposure?

I appreciate your time in reading this and any respose is greatly appreciated.

Thanks

HIV does not cause a single groin to swell.Does not cause night sweat or a pimple on the arm. Never cause symptoms in the first week at all.

Hi Teak

I do appreciate your replies.

Due to the hot and humid climate, could the HIV survive for a few minutes on the condoom? I may have put it on inside out, which could of caused an infection?

Do you know if many HIV+ people experience aches after lowering their immune system through drinking alcohol?

I would suggest you quit drinking alcohol if it causes you to have aches and pains. You don't have an HIV concern.

Sorry to revive an old post but it's related to this situation I had 6 Months ago outlined above.
Since this incident I've been experiencing aching in both arms the day after I drink alcohol. This happens every time no matter how much or little I drink.

I was wondering if anyone else has experienced the same feeling? I heard it could be a linked to Hodgkins Lymphoma, which people with HIV have experienced before.

I haven't been for a HIV check yet as I didn't think I have a high risk exposure.

Your opinion would be greatly appreciated. I'd like to know why you think that I never had an exposure.

Many thanks

I've read up on how long the virus can live outside the human body and i've come accross mixed responses. It depends on the enviromental factors i.e. the amount of liquid present on the condom depends on how quickly the air can dry it up. Some say it lives for seconds, some say minutes to hours.

I'm not sure but more opinions on my circumstances would be appreciated.

the reason, which i too find hard to believe, is that HIV is apparently rendered inactive once it leaves the human body (unless sealed in the syringe of a needle). I would say he's right, but, not to alarm you my question to further that is "is there a minumum time before the virus is inactive after leaving the body....i.e. 1min or something?

Correct me if I'm wrong but If I put the condom on inside out surely sexual fluids from the CSW would make contact with my penis, therefore giving me a potential exposure.

Thanks again for your commnts.
