hiv/aids

My question is this. I was possibly exposed to hiv 13 years ago and i just recently had an hiv test done. Can i trust this test to be accurate? And is there any other test i could take to be completely sure i dont have aids?

And the thing that freaks me out the most is that i have a lot of symptoms that could be related to hiv/aids. I have low wbc count. I also a high level of protein in my blood too. I feel like i am at a lost. Every doctor ive been to tells me not to worry, but how am i not suppose to when i have all these signs in my blood work pointing to hiv?

If you had HIV for 13 years and without treatment chances are you would be dead.

The reason i waited so long is that i really didnt think i had been exposed for a long time. Then quite a few years down the road i realized that i may have been exposed and needed to get tested. And then after i got tested i still worried i might be testing false negative.

A test at 80 days is not going to change at 90 days, no worries.

I thought it had been 13 years since your last exposure?

HIV antibody tests can be done on blood or oral fluid. They are the same tests, meaning they test for the same thing (antibodies to HIV) but they just use different bodily fluids. As long as it is an antibody test, it is fine for testing for HIV. I was tested about 10 months after the exposure. As long as it has been a minimum of 3 months, your results will be very accurate.

Your test will be 100% conclusive and accurate. Any HIV antibody test done 3 months after the last possible exposure is conclusive. I would say that 13 YEARS later, it would be conclusive :) The only diagnostic test for HIV is an antibody test.
